VIENYBĖS SQUARE, KAUNAS (LT)

THE ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT OF VIENYBĖS SQUARE WON THE HIGHEST AWARDS IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS "GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2019" AND "IF DESIGN AWARD 2021".

SQUARE RECONSTRUCTION

    During the reconstruction of Square Vienybė a new light surface was laide, green oases were selected, and unique plastic white concrete castings were formed. The square was decorated with the most modern 40-nozzle dancing fountain in the country and an artificial stream, benches for a quit break, paths to the square, and an underground parking lot.
    Reconstruction of the square was carried out by SBA company Urban Inventors. In cooperation with our specialists, modern square lighting has been installed.

GREAT ATTENTION TO PLANT DIVERSITY

    During the renovation of the square, special attention was paid to the plants and trees of the green areas. In addition to several newly planted mature birches and pines, the square houses more than 5,000 trees of various dwarf plants. One of the essential goals of the landscaping concept was that the plants of the square had to be accented throughout the year, to always attract the eye. Properly selected lighting helped to highlight the plant forms and their diversity during the dark hours of the day. For this purpose, high-quality and well-known iGuzzini Lander luminaires are used. To illuminate the paths and area iGuzzini UFO luminaires were used.  

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

    The architectural concept of Vienybė Square was created by the international architecture and design company 3Deluxe. The architectural concept of Vienybė Square won the highest evaluation in the international competition "GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2019". The project was recognized in the winning category "Urban Space" by an international jury of famous architects and designers. This project also became the winner of the international competition "IF DESIGN AWARD 2021", in which the commission awarded an award not only for the architectural idea, form, functionality but the Square received the most points for its role as a citizen-filled city space used for mobilizing residents, businesses and thus fulfilling its social purpose. A project implemented in Lithuania received such recognition for the first time in history.
